Popular Pakistani anchorperson and morning show host Shifa Yousafzai has finally broken her silence over the false news circulating on social media claiming her marriage.
She denied all the claims and clarified that she isn’t married via her post about the issue on X, formerly Twitter.
In her Tweet, she wrote: “Dear friends, I am not married to anyone. The news circulating about me is completely false, and there’s a needless debate happening on social media.”
She expressed frustration over being targeted, stating that women in male-dominated societies often face such challenges, particularly those who work outside the home.
The anchorperson further added, “This is not the first time I’ve been targeted like this. Unfortunately, such baseless allegations have been thrown at me before. I request all social media platforms to delete these false claims.” She also urged both men and women to avoid becoming part of this harmful and futile campaign.
Right after a journalist claimed on social media that a politician from PTI Lahore, Hammad Azhar, had married a second time with a female anchorperson. No name was mentioned at first but many social media users began linking Shifa Yousafzai to the rumors.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar also reacted to the matter; he denied all that was said and added a pinch of humor to the debate.
“My name has appeared in this, and I appreciate being called handsome by my friends. And rest assured, if any thing like this ever happens, I will do you all a favor and inform you in advance,” he said on Twitter.
It all began with Najamul Hasan Bajwa, a journalist, who just published that a senior PTI official from Lahore has recently got married to a female journalist for the second time. Rumors reached town and people mistakenly thought that it was Shifa Yousafzai.
Shifa said in a statement that she thanks all those who stood with her on this ordeal and repeated her appeal for everyone to be responsible online.
