Azerbaijan has significantly enhanced its air force capabilities by acquiring advanced JF-17 Block III fighter jets from Pakistan in a $1.6 billion deal. The multirole aircraft boasts cutting-edge tactical and technical specifications, operational guidelines, and key performance indicators.
The formal handover ceremony took place at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, attended by President Ilham Aliyev, Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov, and Air Vice Marshal Hakim Raza, Chairman of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Board. The jets have already been integrated into Azerbaijan’s air force arsenal.
The JF-17 Block III features state-of-the-art avionics, including an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, enhanced combat capabilities, and an advanced electronic warfare suite. This acquisition modernizes Azerbaijan’s military, strengthening its defense strategy amid ongoing tensions with neighboring Armenia.
Replacing Azerbaijan’s aging MiG-29 fighters, the JF-17 Block III significantly boosts the country’s air-to-air capabilities. This development underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities, marking a significant milestone in the region’s military landscape.
