A Karachi private hospital faces allegations of a missing newborn after a controversial maternity case, while hospital officials deny the claims and await medical test and CCTV evidence.

A maternity case at a private hospital in Karachi’s Nazimabad has become controversial after a citizen accused the hospital of allegedly making a newborn baby disappear.
A private hospital located in Nazimabad No. 3 was vandalized on the night of August 27 over allegations that a newborn baby had gone missing. Police reached the scene after receiving information and recorded statements from the hospital staff and the affected family.
The husband of a woman named Zobia, Rashid Iqbal, claims that all ultrasound reports and records from 38 weeks of pregnancy are available, according to which his wife was pregnant. However, he says that after the operation, the doctor told them that there was no baby and that his wife was not pregnant.
According to sources, the hospital administration maintains that Zobia had been visiting the hospital for check-ups since the beginning of her pregnancy. However, at the time of delivery, there is a suspicion that the woman had been switched. CCTV footage from the past eight to nine months is being collected.
Regarding taking the woman to the labor room, hospital sources said that the woman brought in was slightly overweight, so it was not immediately possible to determine the situation. However, as soon as she was taken to the labor room, it was discovered that she was not pregnant, after which she was brought outside.
Medical tests have also been conducted to determine whether the woman was pregnant or not. The reports are expected to be received within one to two days.
The affected person’s family members and relatives also vandalized the hospital in protest against the incident.
Head of Gynecology Department Denies Family’s Allegations
Dr. Anjum Ara Hassan, Head of the Gynecology Department at the private hospital in Karachi, rejected the allegations made by the woman’s family.
In a video statement, she said that the MLO reports also confirmed that the woman was not pregnant. She said the woman had first visited her in February and claimed to have been pregnant for three months, but the ultrasound showed a negative pregnancy result.
Dr. Anjum Ara Hassan said that the examination entries in the woman’s file were fake. She said that when the woman came for admission, she presented an allegedly fake ultrasound report from another hospital showing her as pregnant. During the examination at the hospital, after checking her heartbeat and conducting other tests, the duty doctor performed the operation. After the operation, it was discovered that the woman was not pregnant.
