In a significant boost to Pakistan-US security cooperation, FBI Director Kash Patel hosted Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the FBI Headquarters in Washington, where both sides discussed expanding collaboration on counterterrorism, cybercrime investigations, and combating terrorism financing.
Sharing details of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), Patel described it as an honor to host the Pakistani delegation and praised Islamabad’s continued support in safeguarding US interests in the region.
“The FBI deeply appreciates their support as we protect US interests in the region,” Patel wrote.
Focus on counterterrorism and cybercrime
According to Patel, the discussions centered on facilitating additional resources and specialized training to strengthen efforts against terrorism financing and cyber investigations, both within the United States and internationally.
The FBI chief emphasized that closer cooperation between the two countries would help address evolving security threats in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
“Our partnership is critical, and we look forward to more success ahead,” Patel added.
Strengthening Pakistan-US security ties
The meeting signals continued engagement between Islamabad and Washington on law enforcement and security matters despite broader geopolitical challenges.
Cooperation between Pakistan and the United States has historically included intelligence sharing, counterterrorism operations, capacity building, and training programs aimed at addressing regional and global security threats.
The latest discussions indicate that both countries are seeking to expand collaboration beyond traditional counterterrorism to include cybersecurity, financial intelligence, and the investigation of increasingly sophisticated transnational crimes.
Why it matters
As cyber threats, online financial crimes, and terrorist financing networks become more complex, enhanced cooperation among international law enforcement agencies is increasingly important. The renewed partnership could strengthen Pakistan’s investigative capabilities while supporting broader regional security objectives.
