Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s Joint Military Command have vowed a “devastating response” following U.S. airstrikes on more than 80 targets across southern Iran.
In a statement issued by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, officials said the attacks took place while the late Supreme Leader’s body was in Iraq for final funeral rites, describing the timing as particularly provocative.
The IRGC declared that Iran would not allow any U.S. interference in the Strait of Hormuz and warned that the American strikes would be met with a powerful military response.
Iran’s Joint Military Command accused the United States of carrying out “open aggression” by targeting multiple locations in southern Iran. The statement said Iran’s armed forces would respond decisively and reiterated that Tehran would not permit U.S. involvement in the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, only Iran would determine safe maritime routes for commercial vessels and oil tankers transiting the strategic waterway.
Earlier, U.S. forces reportedly struck more than 80 targets, including sites in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, and Qeshm. The attacks reportedly targeted Iran’s air defense systems, surveillance infrastructure, anti-ship cruise missiles, drone facilities, and IRGC naval assets. Iranian reports said several people were injured.
The claims and statements from both sides have not been independently verified, and tensions in the region remain high.
