Jude Bellingham scored twice as England defeated Norway 2-1 after extra time to book their place in the FIFA World Cup semifinals after a thrilling quarterfinal in Miami.
Bellingham was the hero once again, scoring the winning goal early in the first half of extra time after reacting quickest to a rebound from a save by Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
England reached the World Cup semifinals for the fourth time in their history and extended their winning run to four matches, their longest streak at the tournament since the run between 1966 and 1970.
The final whistle brought emotional scenes on the pitch. Nyland was left in tears after his mistake led to England’s winning goal, while Harry Kane collapsed to the ground in relief after the hard fought victory. Erling Haaland congratulated Kane and Bellingham after the match, while England coach Thomas Tuchel celebrated with the fans.
Norway’s impressive World Cup journey came to an end despite another determined performance. The team exits the tournament after reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in decades.
England will now face Argentina or Switzerland in the World Cup semifinals as they continue their search for a first World Cup title since 1966.
