The Tanweer Festival: A Mesmerizing Celebration of Heritage, Art, and Unity
The inaugural Tanweer Festival illuminated the Mleiha desert, blending music, poetry, and art under a starlit sky. Envisioned by Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the event drew over 2,000 attendees, embracing the theme “Timeless Echoes of Love and Light”, inspired by Jalal Al Din Al Rumi’s wisdom.
Opening the festival, Sheikha Bodour’s poignant speech, alongside Senny Camara’s soulful Kora performance, set the tone for a transformative celebration. She described Tanweer as “a call to awaken the light within us,” emphasizing unity, compassion, and collective growth.
The highlight of the evening was a spellbinding performance by Sami Yusuf, who debuted his new composition “In Al-Andalus – En al-Ándalus”, inspired by Andalusian poetry. His renditions of classics like “Jadaka Al-Ghaith,” “Ilahana,” and “Madad” left the audience awestruck, bridging musical traditions with deep cultural resonance.
The day also featured powerful performances, including the Emirati Heritage Band, Ziyad Sahhab’s evocative oud melodies paired with Yahya Hussein’s enchanting vocals, and Julien Breton’s dazzling light calligraphy. The Anas Handpan Orchestra closed the evening on the iconic Tree of Life stage, captivating attendees with its unique sound.
The Tanweer Marketplace buzzed with traditional crafts, handmade goods, and Emirati delicacies, while the Nourish Zone offered culinary delights like saffron rice and tender kebabs. Art installations inspired by Rumi and sustainability initiatives, such as solar-powered lighting, highlighted the festival’s eco-conscious approach.
The Tanweer Festival seamlessly blended heritage, creativity, and environmental awareness, creating an unforgettable celebration of love, light, and cultural connection in the heart of the desert.
