Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah on Wednesday, where both leaders reviewed ongoing US–Iran negotiations and discussed regional and global developments.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, and exploring new opportunities for economic and strategic partnership.
Focus on US–Iran talks
A key agenda of the meeting was the recent diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, including talks hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to maintain regional stability and avoid escalation.
Shehbaz Sharif briefed the Saudi leadership on Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue, which contributed to a ceasefire and opened channels for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Saudi praise for Pakistan’s role
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s constructive efforts to promote peace, specifically acknowledging the roles of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He also commended Pakistan’s initiatives to strengthen economic development and deepen strategic ties with Saudi Arabia.
Strong bilateral partnership
During the nearly two-hour meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in defense, economy, and regional diplomacy.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s continued support to Pakistan’s economic stability, calling the relationship “unique” and rooted in a strategic defense partnership.
Regional solidarity
The prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid ongoing regional tensions, expressing condolences over the loss of lives and praising the Kingdom’s leadership for its restraint and stability-focused approach.
High-level participation
The meeting was attended by senior Saudi officials, including Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
Pakistan’s delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and senior aides.
Diplomatic tour continues
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Saudi Arabia on an official visit as part of a broader diplomatic tour from April 15 to 18, which will also include Qatar and Türkiye.
He is expected to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye, as Pakistan continues efforts to position itself as a key diplomatic mediator in the region.
