A Pakistani court has upheld the death sentence of Rizwan Habib,
convicted of murdering his American citizen wife, Wajeeha Swati, in a shocking case linked to a multi-billion-rupee property dispute.
According to court records, the accused allegedly lured Wajeeha to Pakistan under the pretense of a reconciliation agreement and later murdered her in the Kuri area of Morgah Police Station limits.
Investigators stated that her body was subsequently hidden in a pit in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The case was heard by a divisional bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh. In its ruling,
the court declared that the convict should be “hanged until death.”
Police had registered the case in October 2021.
The convict’s father, who was also a co-accused in the case, died in prison during the trial proceedings.
A team of US diplomats was also present in court during the hearing, highlighting the international attention surrounding the case
