Pakistan commemorated its 76th Independence Day with enthusiasm and a deep sense of appreciation for the relentless efforts of its forefathers and national heroes in achieving a separate homeland on August 14.

President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, PPP President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the nation on this occasion.

The day commenced with special prayers for the country’s unity and prosperity, a sentiment particularly fitting considering the challenges faced on both the political and economic fronts. The significance of the day was marked by a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals, paying tribute to the nation’s resilience in overcoming various challenges.

A poignant moment occurred as sirens blared across the country at 7:58 am, heralding the grand flag-hoisting ceremony at 8 am. Mosques resonated with early morning prayers for solidarity, peace, and prosperity.

With the nation enjoying a public holiday, both public and private sectors organized a range of special functions and activities. These included seminars, discussions, photographic exhibitions, artistic displays of paintings and poetry, renditions of national songs, and vibrant debate competitions.

These events aimed to reflect on the remarkable achievements of 76 years ago and honor the contributions of the leaders of the Pakistan Movement as well as the sacrifices made by both national heroes and ordinary citizens in the struggle for sovereignty and self-determination.

We Gained Freedom After Great Struggle

Streets and avenues in the capital and other cities were adorned with colorful decorations, particularly in shades of green, symbolizing the spirit of the occasion. Houses, cars, and streets were bedecked with flags, banners, and buntings, creating a festive atmosphere.

Prominent buildings illuminated in celebration, serving as a reminder of this significant milestone. The media, both print and electronic, played a vital role in paying tribute to Pakistan’s heroes and their unwavering dedication.

The police took measures to ensure the safety and convenience of the public, given the increased footfall in public spaces like parks, malls, markets, and beaches. People from various walks of life mingled to celebrate the day’s significance.

Cultural and literary organizations, including the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), orchestrated numerous programs to commemorate the day. However, the true excitement of Independence Day was perhaps most palpable among the children, the nation’s future.

Educational institutions, both private and public, engaged these young minds through competitions, functions, and sessions that aimed to impart an understanding of the historical struggle that led to the creation of Pakistan.

Cities across the nation were awash in green and white as Jashan-i-Azadi stalls showcased dresses, flags, buntings, pin badges, toys, and other decorative items, captivating the interest of children and youngsters. Furthermore, various brands, online retailers, eateries, cab-hailing services, and electronics companies added to the festive fervor by offering exciting discounts.

Pakistan celebrated its 76th Independence Day with a sense of pride, unity, and respect for its history. The day’s events and activities served as a tribute to the sacrifices of the past while infusing a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm for the nation’s future.
