LAHORE: Authorities have imposed a ban on the entry of commercial vehicles into Lahore if they do not possess a valid fitness certificate, proper lighting, and a licensed driver, in a major move to improve road safety and traffic discipline.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi announced that, effective immediately, only commercial vehicles driven by individuals holding valid and effective driving licenses will be allowed to enter the city.
The CTO warned that strict action will be taken against commercial vehicles operating without front and rear lights, misusing high beams, or lacking a valid fitness certificate. Loader tractor-trolleys carrying sand, soil, or other materials will also be prohibited from using city roads unless their loads are properly covered with tarpaulins.
A citywide crackdown has been launched, with general hold-ups and special inspection campaigns underway at major entry and exit points of Lahore. Senior police officers, including SPs and DSPs, will personally supervise enforcement operations to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Shirazi emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against irresponsible driving. He urged all commercial drivers to carry their driving licenses, fitness certificates, and other required documents to avoid legal action during inspections.
The initiative aims to enhance road safety, reduce traffic hazards, and ensure stricter enforcement of transport regulations across the city
