Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a spy drone was reportedly shot down near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, raising alarm just hours before a marquee PSL 10 fixture between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, scheduled for 8 PM tonight.
PSL has emerged as one of Pakistan’s most popular cricket brands over the past decade, playing a key role in bringing international cricket back to the country. As it continues to rival India’s IPL in popularity, a suspected Indian drone was shot down by Pakistani authorities near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium — the venue for tonight’s 8 PM PSL match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.
The drone was detected and neutralized near Food Street, close to the stadium, with multiple social media users sharing footage of what appears to be the downed device. Security personnel swiftly cordoned off the area, and investigations are currently underway.
This incident follows closely on the heels of India’s May 6 airstrikes, which have significantly heightened security risks in the region. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) organizers had earlier assured fans that the tournament would continue without disruption despite the escalating regional situation.
“Security agencies are thoroughly evaluating the threat,” said a senior Rawalpindi police official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “At this stage, we’re doing everything to ensure the safety of players, fans, and officials.”
While no official statement has yet been made regarding the fate of tonight’s match, concerns are growing among fans and stakeholders. Authorities and event organizers are expected to announce a decision shortly on whether the Zalmi-Kings clash will go ahead as scheduled.
This is not the first time cricket in Pakistan has been overshadowed by geopolitical developments, but the presence of a suspected surveillance drone so close to a live sporting venue marks a disturbing escalation.
