Andhra Pradesh — A family of four allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train near Chebrolu Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district on Saturday night, in what police believe was driven by severe financial distress.
According to railway authorities, the incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. when a special train bound for Visakhapatnam struck the family. All four members died at the scene.
The deceased were identified as Sheikh Chand Basha, 50, his wife Sheikh Haseena, 45, and their daughters, Sharmila, 23, and Meera, 20. Sharmila was an MBA student and reportedly suffered from recurrent seizures. Meera had completed intermediate education and was living at home after her marriage.
Chand Basha and Haseena operated an optical shop in Tadepalligudem to support their family. Chand Basha reportedly had a heart condition, while Haseena was living with diabetes and high blood pressure.
Local residents said the family had been struggling with serious financial difficulties for some time. On Saturday evening, the four left their home on two motorcycles, and a few hours later, the tragic incident occurred near the railway tracks.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or overwhelming distress, seeking support from trusted family members, local mental health professionals, or a suicide prevention helpline can make a critical difference.
