KARACHI: A woman and her three children were killed inside their home in Karachi’s Surjani Town, with police saying the victims appeared to have been attacked with a stick or another blunt object.
According to police officials, the deceased were identified as Mahwish and her children, including six-year-old Hira and five-year-old Hunain. The bodies of the woman and two children were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The third child, 18-month-old Ashmira, was initially found injured and was shifted to the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) for treatment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll to four.
Police have taken Mahwish’s husband, Danish, into custody as part of the investigation. Authorities said no suspected murder weapon was recovered from the house so far.
The SHO of Surjani Town said Danish had called the family, but no one answered the phone. He then went to the house and used a key to open the gate, where he found the bodies inside. Police are currently obtaining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to determine what happened and identify any possible suspects.
Family members said they were unaware of any dispute or enmity involving the family. Mahwish’s brother, Amjad, said the family had no known hostility with anyone and described his brother-in-law as a good person. He said there had never been any major dispute and demanded justice for the victims.
Mahwish’s mother-in-law also defended her son, saying he loved his family very much. She said Mahwish also did not have conflicts or quarrels with anyone.
The victim’s sister-in-law similarly said there had been no disputes between Mahwish and Danish. She expressed the belief that someone may have entered the house and killed Mahwish and the children, adding that Danish himself went to the house and contacted police after discovering the bodies.
Police said the investigation is underway, while forensic evidence and CCTV footage are being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine who was responsible.
