Chaudhry Salik Hussain Stands by His Statement on Corruption in Punjab

Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain has said that he stands by his statement regarding corruption in Punjab.

He said, “May Allah protect us from arrogance and pride. I stand by my statement that corruption is taking place in Punjab. There was no discussion about getting a Deputy Commissioner (DC) appointed, as the DC was already posted.”

Chaudhry Salik said that when a person is given authority, they should remain humble. He added that he had answered truthfully and reiterated that corruption was definitely taking place in Punjab. He also clarified that these matters were not related to provincial affiliations.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that she will send a defamation notice to Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain over his allegations.

Addressing a ceremony in Attock, Maryam Nawaz said that if Chaudhry Salik had evidence, he should present it publicly; otherwise, she would take him to court. She said that as a federal minister, he should not make allegations without providing evidence. She also announced that she would send him a defamation notice.

The Punjab chief minister further said that Chaudhry Salik had described Pervez Elahi’s government as the best. However, recalling her visit to Gujrat during rainfall, she said that there was so much water that her vehicle became submerged.

Maryam Nawaz questioned why Chaudhry Salik was serving as a minister if he believed the Punjab government was so corrupt.

She added that she did not listen to recommendations from others and appointed government officers in Punjab strictly on merit. According to her, appointments based on recommendations damage the country and harm the public.
