Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is facing mounting criticism after another disappointing Test performance reignited debate over his batting under pressure and inconsistent wicketkeeping.

The senior batter managed just 19 runs in the first innings and 18 in the second innings, finishing the match with a combined total of 37 runs — a return many fans and analysts believe was far below expectations for one of Pakistan’s most experienced players.
Rizwan, once praised for his fighting spirit and consistency, is now increasingly being questioned for failing to convert starts into match-saving innings, particularly in difficult fourth-innings situations where Pakistan needed composure and resistance.
Critics argue that over the last two years, Rizwan has developed a pattern of scoring useful runs before throwing away his wicket with loose or careless shots at crucial moments. Fans on social media also pointed to his inability to produce a defining knock under extreme pressure despite being one of the team’s senior-most batters.
His wicketkeeping has also come under scrutiny. While Rizwan remains energetic and vocal behind the stumps, critics believe his glovework has declined, particularly in handling difficult catches and stumping opportunities. Several observers claimed that Pakistan has repeatedly suffered from missed chances in recent Test matches.
The backlash intensified after Pakistan’s latest defeat, with many supporters calling for younger wicketkeepers such as Rohail Nazir and Saad Baig to be given extended opportunities in the red-ball format.
Despite the criticism, Rizwan’s overall Test numbers still remain respectable. He has scored more than 2,300 Test runs at an average close to 40 and has played several important innings for Pakistan over the years.
However, the growing frustration among fans reflects a larger concern surrounding Pakistan cricket — the lack of players consistently delivering in high-pressure moments away from home and during difficult run chases.
Former cricketers and analysts say Pakistan now faces an important decision: whether to continue backing experienced players like Rizwan or begin transitioning toward younger talent ahead of the next World Test Championship cycle.
