As per Geo News, two physics teachers from Ghazi University in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, have been accused of sexually assaulting and coercing a young female student.
The distressed young woman believed to be a student in the university’s physics department, identified the two teachers in a widely circulated video on social media. She disclosed that they had allegedly confined her overnight in the hostel.
In the viral video, the student expressed concerns about her younger sister also being subjected to blackmail by the same teachers. She issued a strong warning that if appropriate action is not taken against the accused educators, she would resort to self-immolation.
Addressing the complaint, Ghazi University spokesperson Shoaib Raza clarified that the video being shared was dated and that steps had been taken in response to the victim’s report.
Additionally, a post from the university’s official Twitter account clarified that the video in question was four months old. An investigation had been conducted following the female student’s request, leading to the suspension of the implicated teachers.
The notification, dated May 5, 2023, announced the suspension of Dr. Zafar Wazir and Dr. Khalid Mehmood Ur Rehman, the two professors allegedly involved.
The university’s statement went on to highlight that the circulated video was being exploited by a few teachers facing ongoing internal inquiries for misconduct. These individuals were purportedly using the video to tarnish the university’s reputation.
The statement also emphasized that despite these challenges, the university’s operations, including admissions, were progressing smoothly. It urged legal action against these negative elements seeking to unjustly damage the institution’s standing. The statement concluded by asserting that the university remains committed to its positive course.
