LAHORE: Two children have died and their parents are reportedly in critical condition after the family allegedly consumed contaminated food in the Harbanspura area of the provincial capital.
According to police, the incident occurred after a married couple and their two children ate leftover curry, reportedly containing potatoes and cauliflower, from the previous night. Shortly after consuming the food, all four family members fell seriously ill and their condition deteriorated rapidly.
Rescue officials were alerted and reached the location, where they provided initial medical assistance to the affected family before shifting them to a hospital for further treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, both children died during treatment.
Police identified the deceased children as Qadeer and Asma. Their parents remain in critical condition and are receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Following the incident, a Crime Scene Unit and forensic experts arrived at the residence to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspected food poisoning. The forensic team began collecting samples of the food and other material from the scene for laboratory examination.
Officials also summoned a team from the Food Department to assist with the investigation and determine whether the food consumed by the family contained any toxic substance or was contaminated.
According to forensic experts, an initial suspicion is that the food may have become poisonous after a lizard allegedly fell into it. However, authorities have stressed that this is only an initial suspicion and that the exact cause of the deaths cannot be confirmed until forensic testing and other investigations are completed.
Police have launched a further investigation into the incident and are examining the food samples and other evidence collected from the scene. The final findings are expected to establish what caused the family members to fall critically ill and led to the deaths of the two children.
