New Delhi: Lungi Ngidi was taken from the field in an ambulance after suffering a frightening head injury during an Indian Premier League match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
The incident took place during the third over of the run chase when Ngidi attempted a catch in the mid-off region from a mistimed shot played by Priyansh Arya.
As he stretched backward to complete the chance, the South African fast bowler lost balance, missed the ball and fell heavily on the back of his head.
Medical staff rushed onto the field immediately, with the team physio attending to Ngidi as players and spectators watched in visible concern. A stretcher was then brought onto the ground before an ambulance entered the stadium to transport him for further treatment.
The distressing scene briefly halted play, while teammates appeared shaken by the accident. There was no immediate official update on the severity of the injury.
Head injuries in modern cricket are treated with extreme caution under concussion protocols, with players often undergoing detailed medical checks before any return to action.
Ngidi, one of South Africa’s most experienced fast bowlers, has represented his country across all formats and remains a respected figure on the global T20 circuit.
Fans quickly flooded social media with messages of support, hoping for positive news regarding the 30-year-old pacer’s condition. More updates are expected after medical assessments are completed.
