Creativity reached new heights at the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2023)’s bustling kids’ workshop space, with a unique activity that taught children the art of making fabric collage. With spools of vibrant textiles and the guidance of expert mentors at their disposal, the workshop’s young attendees transcended the conventional boundaries of artistic expression.
After receiving a detailed introduction to collage concepts and techniques, the participants were divided into groups and encouraged to transform ordinary pieces of fabric into extraordinary masterpieces.

First, participants sketched their ideas, translating imagination into blueprints. The delicate hands of the young artists then manoeuvred their scissors, cutting and layering fabrics precisely, creating a dynamic interplay of textures and colours. The individual artistic flair of each child was encouraged by the instructors who offered them personalised guidance.
Children were encouraged to draw inspiration from their favourite books, weaving narratives through their fabric creations. This unique approach not only enhanced their artistic skills but also fostered a deeper connection between them and the world of books.
