Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi will assume the role of Chairperson for the AUS Board of Trustees according to the stipulations of the decree issued by the office of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Emiri Decree No. (53) of 2023 has been promulgated by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This decree pertains to the Restructuring of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
Among the other members appointed to the Board of Trustees are notable individuals such as Sheikh Sultan Sooud Al Qasimi, the visionary behind the Barjeel Art Foundation; Dr. Nawal Khalifa Al Hosani, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, Former President of the Federal National Council; Mohamed Al Abbar, the Founder of Emaar Company; Dr. Susan Mumm, Chancellor of the American University of Sharjah; Dr. Hao Ping, Former President of Peking University; Bedour Al Raqbani, Director and Founder of the Kalamati Centre; Abdulfattah Sharaf, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HSBC Bank Middle East; Mohammed Al Huraimel Al Shamsi, Executive Director – Head of UK Investment Programme at Mubadala; Chaouki T. Abdallah, Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR) at the Georgia Institute of Technology; Dr. Daniele Struppa, President of Chapman University; Ahmad Abu Eideh, CEO of Invest Bank; and Abhijit Choudhury, Founder and CEO of Athena Advisory Limited.
The tenure of membership for these individuals will span a period of three years, commencing from the date of the issuance of the decree. This tenure is subject to renewal for an equivalent period or multiple terms. The Board of Trustees will continue to fulfil its responsibilities beyond its term’s conclusion until the establishment of a new board. Furthermore, those individuals whose membership term has expired are eligible for reappointment.
This decree is set to take effect from its date of issuance and will be formally published in the Official Gazette.
