The Punjab government has placed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on high alert across the province ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram and the monsoon season, directing officials to ensure uninterrupted civic services and emergency preparedness.
Secretary Housing Punjab Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has ordered the cancellation of all WASA officers’ leave, including previously approved vacations. Under the new directives, no officer will be allowed to take leave without prior approval from the Secretary Housing.
Officials have been instructed to remain fully active in the field and respond immediately to complaints related to drainage, sewerage, and clean water supply. The move aims to minimize public inconvenience during heavy rains and religious gatherings.
Mengal emphasized that WASA teams must remain prepared around the clock to handle rainfall-related emergencies and any unforeseen situations. He also directed authorities to complete special arrangements along Muharram procession and gathering routes, ensuring effective drainage, sanitation, and water supply facilities for mourners.
According to officials, all WASA offices and field teams have been ordered to stay vigilant and continuously monitor the situation to provide timely services to the public.
