LAHORE — Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure the provision of safety equipment and implementation of precautionary measures in factories, industrial units and offices across Punjab.
In her message on the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the chief minister emphasised the importance of protecting both the physical and mental health of labourers working in factories and other workplaces.
According to an official statement, she instructed the labour department and other relevant institutions to take strict action against those violating workplace safety laws.
Maryam described workplace safety, public health and labour welfare as key pillars of national development, reaffirming her government’s commitment to the protection and rehabilitation of workers.
She ordered strict enforcement of safety protocols and the mandatory use of protective equipment to reduce occupational hazards.
“A healthy and safe worker can build a strong nation,” she said, urging industrialists and business owners to prioritise employee welfare and workplace protection.
The chief minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen labour laws through new amendments to improve worker safeguards across the province.
She said monthly ration card assistance is currently being provided to 1.4 million workers, while another 50,000 labourers will receive ration cards during the current fiscal year.
Maryam warned that factories that neglected workers’ health and safety would face penalties under the law.
