The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday revealed the 11 players to represent the country in the first Test match against Bangladesh starting on Wednesday, August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Shan Masood will lead the side for the first time in a home series after being named the captain of the team. Saud Shakeel has also been included in the playing XI named as vice-captain.
The star-studded Pakistan cricket team features players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. To capitalise on the condition in Rawalpindi, there is a balanced pace attack with four specialist pacers in the squad.
This series also brings interesting changes for the coaching staff of Pakistan, as Jason Gillespie has become the head coach in this series. As for the Test series, Pakistan has an advantage over Bangladesh, having won 12 out of 13 games, with one being a tie.
Earlier today, fast bowler Aamir Jamal was dropped from the Test squad citing fitness issues. Picked for the Bangladesh series initially, he was told to recover at the National Cricket Academy due to back issues he faced during county cricket.
Even the PCB admitted that Jamal would be taken through rehabilitation in order to have him fit again. Besides, before that, Kamran Ghulam and Abrar Ahmed had already been released from the squad.
All the attention will be given to Pakistan, as it is obvious that the audience will expect the team under new leadership and with the help of a new coach to maintain successful statistics against Bangladesh in the first Test.
