Elon Musk revealed on Sunday his plan to change the logo of Twitter, replacing the iconic bird with an “X.” This move comes as the latest significant change since his acquisition of the social media platform for $44 billion last year.Taking to his Twitter account just after 12 a.m. ET, Musk announced his intention to implement the logo change globally, with the update scheduled to take place as soon as Monday.
In a whimsical tone, he wrote, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
Earlier this month, Musk introduced new curfews on his digital town square, a decision that received criticism for potentially driving away advertisers and undermining the platform’s cultural influence as a trendsetter.
To address these concerns and win back advertisers, Musk appointed longtime NBC Universal executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s CEO in May.
The return of advertisers is crucial for both Musk and Twitter, as many had withdrawn from the platform in the initial months following his takeover, fearing potential damage to their brands amid the ensuing chaos. Musk had mentioned in late April that advertisers were coming back, though he did not provide specific details.
