Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to step down from his position soon, according to recent speculations. The reports gained traction after Naqvi’s absence from a key National Security Council (NSC) meeting held in Islamabad.
Mr. Naqvi’s absence fueled rumors that he was in the UAE due to health concerns. Senior journalist Najam Sethi, in his talk show last night, also hinted at Naqvi’s likely departure.
Sethi claimed that the powerful circles have decided to replace Naqvi with veteran politician Pervez Khattak. According to Sethi, Khattak enjoys strong ties with the establishment, making him a suitable candidate for the post. Additionally, Sethi said that Tallal Choudhry has already been appointed as the Minister of State in the Interior Ministry.
However, he also noted that Mohsin Naqvi might not be sidelined entirely and could be offered another ministerial portfolio in the federal cabinet.
There has been no official confirmation or denial from the government regarding these developments. If the reports hold true, Pakistan may soon witness a reshuffling in one of its most crucial ministries, which oversees law and order in the country.
Pervez Khattak is a seasoned Pakistani politician who has served in various key positions. He was the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018 and later became the Federal Minister for Defence under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government. Khattak has long been associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but parted ways following internal party conflicts.
Known for his political acumen and strong connections with the establishment, he remains an influential figure in Pakistan’s political landscape.
Mohsin Naqvi is a media mogul and part-time politician who has held various roles in governance. Before taking charge as the Federal Interior Minister, he served as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, where he oversaw crucial administrative matters, including security and governance.
His tenure has been marked by strong decision-making, although he has also faced criticism from opposition parties. Naqvi’s political journey has been shaped by his close associations with influential power circles in Pakistan.
