Karachi Press Club Unites Journalists and Corporate Communicators in One Room. Will Lahore Press Club Ever Do the Same?

K-Electric Spokesperson Imran Rana praised journalists for their unparalleled role in professional learning and growth at a gathering hosted by Karachi Press Club bringing together media and corporate communications professionals.

The Karachi Press Club has done something that press clubs across Pakistan — including in Lahore — would do well to notice and replicate.

It brought journalists and corporate communications professionals into the same room, celebrated their relationship and created the kind of space where the two communities that need each other most could actually talk to each other.

K-Electric Spokesperson Imran Rana used the occasion to say something that corporate communicators rarely say publicly — and that journalists rarely hear said with this level of sincerity.

“The role of journalist friends in shaping learning and development is truly unparalleled.”

What Was Said and Why It Matters

Speaking at the KPC gathering, Imran Rana acknowledged the support, guidance and shared experiences that members of the journalism community had provided throughout his career in corporate communications.

That acknowledgement is significant. Corporate spokespersons and communications professionals spend their careers working alongside journalists — briefing them, pitching to them, managing difficult stories and navigating crises with their help or despite their scrutiny. The relationship is not always comfortable. It is not always easy. But when it works it produces better corporate communication, more informed journalism and a healthier information environment for everyone.

Imran Rana’s public recognition of what journalists bring to his professional development is the kind of honest, gracious statement that strengthens both communities.

The Gathering That Created the Space

The KPC event provided a platform for media professionals and corporate communications representatives to strengthen relationships, exchange insights and celebrate the importance of collaboration between two sectors that are deeply interdependent but rarely celebrate that interdependence formally.

Press clubs in Pakistan have traditionally served their members — the journalists. An event that deliberately includes corporate communications professionals and celebrates the relationship between the two communities is a model that every press club in Pakistan should consider.

Which brings MediaBites to an honest editorial observation.

Will Lahore Press Club Ever Do This?

Lahore is Pakistan’s second largest city, home to one of the country’s most active journalism communities and one of its most vibrant corporate and business sectors. The Lahore Press Club has the membership, the standing and the relationships to host exactly this kind of gathering.

An event that brings together Lahore’s journalists and the corporate communications professionals who work alongside them — to celebrate the relationship, exchange insights and strengthen the bonds that make both communities better at what they do — is long overdue.

Karachi Press Club has shown it can be done. It can be done with dignity, warmth and genuine professional value.

The question for LPC’s leadership is simple. When?

MediaBites Congratulates Imran Rana and Karachi Press Club

Team MediaBites extends congratulations to Imran Rana for the grace and honesty with which he acknowledged journalism’s contribution to his professional growth. In a media landscape where the relationship between corporate communications and journalism is often transactional and sometimes adversarial, his words at the KPC gathering were a reminder of what the relationship can be at its best.

And congratulations to the Karachi Press Club for creating the space where those words could be said and heard.

This is what press clubs are for.
