Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has officially assumed the role of chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to media reports, Shah’s appointment comes at a critical situation, with tensions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and BCCI regarding the location of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
As Pakistan Cricket Board demands for a formula that would allow the event to take place in Pakistan has created deadlock, with the BCCI resisting and lobbying for a hybrid model, which the PCB has rejected.The ICC had planned to resolve this issue at a crucial board meeting, but this has been postponed, with a decision expected in the coming days.

This uncertainty led to the extension of outgoing ICC Chairman Greg Barclay’s term by one month.
On the other hand, newly appointed ICC Chairman Jay expressed excitement about the challenges ahead, including efforts to promote cricket at the global level and accelerate the development of the women’s game.Shah also highlighted the importance of preparing for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.
