ISLAMABAD: Authorities have decided to seal Islamabad’s Red Zone and the extended Red Zone in view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, according to sources.
Sources said all five routes leading towards the Red Zone would be completely closed as part of the security arrangements. Two layers of containers would be placed on each of the five routes to prevent access, while a heavy contingent of security personnel would be deployed at the entry points.
The extended Red Zone would also be sealed, with sources stating that it would only be opened in case of an emergency. The measures are being taken ahead of the expected PTI long march in the federal capital.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Police has imposed a ban on all types of leave for its officers and personnel. Inspector General of Islamabad Police has issued a circular in this regard, directing personnel to remain available for duty.
According to the circular, accidental, earned and foreign travel leave for Islamabad Police personnel will remain prohibited. The restriction on leave will remain in effect until October 5, 2026.
The police authorities have clarified that, except for emergency leave, all other types of leave have been suspended with immediate effect. Officers and personnel who are currently on leave have also been directed to report back for duty immediately.
The security measures come as preparations are being made in Islamabad ahead of the PTI’s planned long march. The sealing of the Red Zone and extended Red Zone, along with the deployment of additional security personnel and restrictions on police leave, are part of the arrangements being implemented by the authorities.
