ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved an extension in operating hours for shops and commercial centers in Islamabad, introducing a new schedule aimed at balancing economic activity and energy conservation.
The decision was made during a meeting on austerity measures chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Under the revised schedule, shops and shopping malls will now be allowed to remain open until 9:00 PM, while wedding halls can continue operations until 10:00 PM.
Authorities have also relaxed restrictions on the hospitality sector, allowing restaurants to stay open until 11:00 PM.
Officials said that takeaway and home delivery services will be exempt from the operating-hour restrictions to ensure convenience for residents.
The meeting further decided that pharmacies, hospitals, and petrol pumps will remain fully exempt from the new regulations and may continue providing services according to their normal schedules.
Government sources stated that the revised timings are intended to promote efficient energy use while supporting commercial and business activities. Additional implementation guidelines are expected to be issued soon.
