Apple’s latest flagship smartphones have been on the market for only a few weeks, but some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users are already raising concerns about an unusual cosmetic issue—the phone’s exterior appears to be changing color.

According to reports circulating online, users have noticed discoloration on different versions of the new iPhone models, with the Burgundy variant appearing to be the most affected.
What makes the issue particularly interesting is where the color change is occurring. Rather than affecting the entire back panel, the discoloration appears to be concentrated around the three rear camera lenses, leaving users wondering what could be causing the unusual transformation.
Some users claim the change cannot simply be blamed on dirt, grease or everyday wear and tear. They say they attempted to clean the affected area, but the original color did not return.
The exact cause, however, remains unclear.
One theory users discuss is that heat generated during camera use could be affecting the finish around the lenses. While the possibility has attracted attention online, there is currently no official evidence confirming that heat is responsible.
The number of similar complaints has also raised questions about whether the issue is an isolated manufacturing defect or something that could affect a wider batch of devices.
Apple has not yet issued an official statement addressing the reported discoloration. As a result, it remains unclear whether the company will offer replacements or another solution to customers experiencing the problem.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Apple’s Pro models have faced questions over their exterior finish. Similar complaints were previously reported involving certain orange-colored iPhone 17 Pro units, with Apple reportedly replacing affected devices free of charge.
However, current reports suggest that the discoloration claims surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro may be attracting attention on a noticeably larger scale.
For now, iPhone 18 Pro owners are left with one major question: Is this simply a cosmetic flaw, or could it point to a deeper problem with the phone’s materials or design? Until Apple responds, the mystery of the changing color will likely keep growing.
