A drone attack by the Houthi militia on a power grid station in Madinah temporarily disabled one electricity transformer, Saudi-led coalition forces said.
According to the coalition spokesperson, investigations by the relevant authorities, evidence collected from the scene, and analysis of debris from the drone used in the attack confirmed the Houthi militia’s involvement in planning and carrying out the attack.
The statement said the attack temporarily disabled one electricity transformer, but the overall power supply and electricity network remained unaffected.
The spokesperson said targeting civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque (ﷺ) was a continuation of what the coalition described as the Houthi militia’s attempts to target holy sites, including Makkah and Madinah. The spokesperson described the attack as a provocative act that deliberately hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims around the world.
The Saudi-led coalition forces also claimed to have intercepted and destroyed four Houthi drones and two ballistic missiles.
According to the spokesperson, four drones launched toward Khamis Mushait and two ballistic missiles fired toward Jazan were intercepted and destroyed in the air.
The coalition forces said necessary measures would continue to be taken to deter the Houthi militia, protect the Two Holy Mosques, and ensure the safety of visitors in Makkah and Madinah.
