Bangkok: At least 27 people were killed and more than 60 injured after a devastating fire tore through a bar in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, late Monday night, authorities said.
According to Thai officials, several people remain missing, raising fears that the death toll could rise. Firefighters received reports of the blaze shortly after midnight and rushed to the scene, where flames were already engulfing the bar’s main entrance as panicked patrons struggled to escape.
Videos circulating on social media showed the fire spreading rapidly throughout the building, with some victims’ clothing catching fire as they fled for safety.
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister visited the site and confirmed that 27 bodies had been recovered. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, while authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
Rescue officials said firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly 30 minutes of intense firefighting. However, many people inside had already been trapped by thick smoke and intense flames.
Local media reported that the victims included nine men and 18 women. More than 60 injured people remain under medical treatment, while rescue teams continue searching the debris for anyone still trapped.
