Torrential monsoon rains have triggered widespread devastation across Pakistan’s Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces, killing at least 23 people and injuring dozens as collapsing roofs, electrocution incidents, and flash floods wreaked havoc.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab recorded nine fatalities in rain-related incidents, including roof collapses and electrocution, while dozens of people were injured.
In Raiwind near Lahore, one person was killed and three others injured after a house roof collapsed in Kot Babu Khan. Another roof collapse near Gulshan Ravi on Lahore’s Bund Road left four people injured.
Additional casualties were reported from Pakpattan, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Bahawalnagar, where heavy rains caused roofs and walls to collapse and triggered electrocution accidents.
Urban flooding also disrupted daily life in Pindi Bhattian, where roads were submerged. Heavy rainfall inundated low-lying areas in Faisalabad, Bhalwal, and Jhang, causing severe traffic disruptions.
The PDMA said the current spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until July 24.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 14 deaths and 19 injuries in rain-related accidents across multiple districts. The deceased included six men, six children, and two women, while the injured comprised 11 men, four women, and four children.
The KP PDMA said 28 houses have been affected by heavy rains and flash floods, with six completely destroyed and 22 partially damaged.
The affected districts include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Lower Chitral, Lower and Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar, Kurram, and North Waziristan.
Authorities said rescue and relief operations are ongoing in all affected areas. Officials added that water levels in the province’s rivers and streams remain within normal limits, although intermittent rainfall is expected to continue until July 23.
