WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that planned American military strikes on Iran were halted after urgent appeals from the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, opening the door for fresh diplomatic negotiations with Tehran.
In a statement posted Monday on Truth Social, Trump said the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally requested Washington to delay an attack that had reportedly been scheduled for Tuesday.
“Based on my respect for the above mentioned leaders, I have instructed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Daniel Caine, and the United States military, that we will not be doing the scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow,” Trump wrote.
According to Trump, the Gulf leaders argued that additional time for negotiations could still lead to a diplomatic breakthrough acceptable to both the United States and regional powers.
The U.S. president emphasized that any future agreement with Tehran must guarantee that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.
“This deal will include, importantly, no nuclear weapons for Iran,” Trump stated.
Speaking later at a healthcare event in Washington, Trump hinted that the postponement could become permanent if negotiations succeed.
“I put it off for a little while, hopefully maybe forever,” he told reporters, while also warning that the U.S. military remains prepared for a “full, large-scale assault” if diplomacy fails.
The development comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following months of conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The crisis has disrupted shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, causing volatility in global oil markets and increasing concerns over economic stability worldwide.
Regional diplomatic efforts have intensified in recent days as Gulf states push to prevent a wider war and stabilize the region through dialogue rather than military escalation.
