A fire broke out in Sheikh Zayed Hospital’s operation theatre in Rahim Yar Khan, reportedly due to a short circuit, prompting immediate evacuation as rescue teams responded.
RAHIM YAR KHAN: A fire broke out in the operation theatre of Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, triggering panic and prompting the immediate evacuation of patients from the affected area.
According to rescue officials, the fire was caused by a short circuit. Smoke spread through the hospital after the incident, while patients present in the operation theatre were safely evacuated.
Rescue teams launched an operation to control the blaze, with further details being awaited.
Deputy Commissioner Takes Notice
Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa took notice of the fire incident and sought an immediate report from the hospital administration.
He directed the Assistant Commissioner of Rahim Yar Khan to reach the site and assess the situation. Authorities said the causes of the fire and the hospital’s safety arrangements were being reviewed.
The hospital administration has also been asked to provide complete details and a report. Officials said facts would become clear after a detailed investigation.
Earlier Fire at Lahore General Hospital
The incident comes four days after a fire broke out in the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital. Around 70 people, including pregnant women, were safely evacuated, and no fatalities were reported.
Hospital officials said the fire started in the exhaust fan system, causing smoke to fill the ward and adjoining corridor. A security guard reportedly fell ill due to the smoke but was treated in the emergency department and was later stated to be out of danger.
Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Faryad Hussain said fire-safety training provided to staff proved effective. Trained staff responded quickly and extinguished the fire using fire extinguishers without requiring outside assistance.
Officials said no one was injured and there was no loss of life in the Lahore incident.
