Katrina Kaif is reportedly being considered for a key cameo in Prabhas starrer Spirit after Deepika Padukone’s dramatic exit over Rs25 crore fee demands and profit-sharing disputes with the production team.
By Imran Malik | Entertainment Desk | MediaBites.com.pk
Bollywood never runs out of drama. And right now, the most talked-about film in Indian cinema is generating more headlines off-screen than it has revealed on-screen.
Spirit, the upcoming action thriller directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Prabhas, has been the subject of relentless casting speculation for months. First came Deepika Padukone’s reported exit. Now a fresh name has entered the conversation — and it is one that has left Bollywood fans genuinely excited.
Katrina Kaif, the actress who has largely stayed away from the spotlight since embracing motherhood, is reportedly being considered for a key cameo in Spirit.
What the reports say
According to a report by Deccan Herald, Katrina is being considered for a brief but story-significant cameo in the film. The role is reportedly small in screen time but important to the film’s narrative. No official confirmation has come from either the filmmakers or Katrina Kaif’s team, making this purely speculative for now.
But speculation involving Prabhas, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and Katrina Kaif in the same sentence is enough to set the internet on fire.
Why this would be significant
If confirmed, the cameo would mark Katrina’s return to Telugu cinema after nearly two decades. She was last seen in Telugu films Malliswari, opposite Venkatesh, and Allari Pidugu, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna — projects from the early years of her career, when she was still finding her footing in Indian cinema.
More significantly, it would mark Katrina’s first major film announcement since becoming a mother. Since marrying Vicky Kaushal, she has been deliberately selective about her projects. Her recent releases failed to make a significant box office impact, and no major film has been confirmed since she embraced motherhood. For her fans who have been waiting patiently for a comeback announcement, the Spirit speculation has reignited considerable excitement.
Why Deepika exited — the full story
The Katrina speculation arrives weeks after Deepika Padukone’s reported departure from Spirit became one of Bollywood’s most discussed stories.
Deepika was initially expected to reunite with Prabhas following their pairing in Kalki 2898 AD. However, reports claimed she had exited the project over a combination of demands that the production team reportedly found difficult to accommodate.
According to those reports, Deepika sought a remuneration of approximately Rs 25 crore along with a 10 percent share of the film’s profits. She reportedly preferred an eight-hour daily work schedule, traveling with a large entourage, and was reportedly not keen on dubbing her own Telugu dialogues. While the makers never publicly addressed the specific reasons, differences with the production team were widely reported as the cause of her exit.
Following Deepika’s reported departure, Triptii Dimri was announced as the female lead opposite Prabhas. Now with Katrina’s name entering the conversation for a separate cameo role, Spirit has added yet another layer to its already eventful pre-production journey.
Spirit — the most anticipated Indian film right now
Spirit is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the filmmaker behind Kabir Singh and Animal — two of Indian cinema’s most commercially successful and critically divisive films of recent years. His combination of high-octane action, intense storytelling, and controversial character portrayals has built him one of Indian cinema’s most passionate and polarised fan followings.
A Vanga film starring Prabhas, one of pan-India cinema’s biggest stars, was always going to be one of the most watched productions in development. The ongoing casting drama has only amplified that anticipation.
Until an official announcement is made, fans will have to wait. But in Bollywood, where speculation often precedes confirmation by weeks, the buzz around Katrina Kaif and Spirit already feels like more than just a rumour.
