The federal government has announced a significant increase in the quarterly installment under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), raising the payment to Rs18,000 for eligible beneficiaries from the upcoming fiscal year.
The announcement was made by BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, who said the programme remains a key pillar for protecting the dignity and financial independence of low-income families across Pakistan. She also strongly rejected negative propaganda against the initiative, calling it unacceptable.
In a major policy shift aimed at improving transparency and convenience, the chairperson revealed that from July this year, all BISP payments will be processed exclusively through digital wallets instead of traditional methods.
Under the new system, eligible women will be able to receive funds directly into mobile-based digital wallet accounts linked through their registered SIMs. The initiative is designed to eliminate long queues at payment centres and reduce dependence on bank counters and ATM-based withdrawals.
Previously, beneficiaries received payments through designated BISP centres or ATM cards, but the programme is now moving towards a fully digital disbursement model for all ongoing relief schemes under its umbrella.
