The Sydney Sixers have pulled off a landmark signing for BBL 15, securing Pakistan batting maestro Babar Azam for the full season, including finals.
With over 14,000 international runs and accolades like the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year (2022) and ODI Cricketer of the Year (2021, 2022), Babar Azam is one of white-ball cricket’s modern greats. He has scored 11,330 T20 runs at an average of 43.07 — the highest for any batter with that volume of runs.
Just nine runs shy of surpassing Rohit Sharma as the leading scorer in men’s T20Is, Babar brings unmatched pedigree and global star power to the Sixers. He’s previously featured in the PSL, CPL, and English domestic leagues, but this marks his BBL debut.
Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes hailed the signing, calling Babar a “world-class player and proven leader” whose arrival strengthens both the club and the league.
Babar joins a strong Sixers squad including Steve Smith and Moises Henriques, and is set to light up the SCG as the Sixers aim for their fourth BBL title.
