Apple has announced that it will replace faulty iPhone Duo smartphones following reports of screen problems just days after the launch of its first foldable device.
The technology giant confirmed on October 26, 2026, that a small number of iPhone Duo units were experiencing issues with their inner displays. The company advised affected customers to contact AppleCare or visit an Apple Store to arrange a replacement.
Several users shared photographs on social media showing visible lines and cracks across their devices’ folding screens. Some customers also reported unusual cracking or crunching sounds when opening their phones, raising concerns about the durability of Apple’s latest smartphone.
One customer, Justin Lokos, posted photographs showing lines across the right side of his iPhone Duo’s display. He later shared another image featuring his damaged phone alongside a replacement device and thanked an Apple Store in New York for its assistance.
Apple has not disclosed the exact number of affected devices or identified the confirmed cause of the screen problems. The company maintains that the issue affects only a small proportion of its newly released foldable smartphones.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display connected through a central hinge, allowing users to transform the device from a conventional smartphone into a tablet-like screen.
The device starts at £1,999 in the United Kingdom, while its most expensive configuration costs £3,199, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date.
The launch represents Apple’s first major iPhone redesign in nearly two decades. The smartphone was introduced under the leadership of chief executive John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook in September 2026.
Industry experts have highlighted the technical difficulties involved in manufacturing foldable smartphones. Samsung faced similar challenges in 2019 when reviewers reported display failures in its first Galaxy Fold devices.
Despite the reported defects, Apple’s foldable smartphone has attracted significant consumer interest. However, analysts believe the company’s response to the problems will play an important role in maintaining customer confidence.
With the iPhone Duo scheduled to enter additional international markets, Apple’s replacement policy and handling of early complaints could influence the device’s long-term success in the competitive foldable smartphone market.
