A shocking incident happened in India when a couple sold their infant to buy an iPhone 14 to make Instagram Reels, NDTV reported.
According to an NDTV report, an Indian couple with two kids identified as Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, took the extreme step of selling their eight-month-old son in order to purchase the latest iPhone 14. Their intention behind buying the expensive phone was to create Instagram Reels videos.
Living in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, the couple also had a seven-year-old daughter. Reports suggest that they had a strong desire to own a high-end smartphone and thus decided to acquire the latest Apple phone.
Fortunately, the police were able to rescue the infant from a resident named Priyanka Ghosh, who had paid money to buy the baby. Priyanka Ghosh resided in the same district.
As a consequence of their actions, both the baby’s mother, Sathi, and the woman who purchased the child have been taken into custody. However, the father, Jaydev Ghosh, is currently on the run, and the authorities are actively searching for him.
During the interrogation, Sathi confessed to the crime, admitting that she and her husband sold their baby with the intention of filming videos for Instagram while traveling across the state.
It has also come to light that the father had attempted to sell their daughter as well, but the plan did not succeed. As per India Today, the couple managed to sell their baby boy for Rs. 200,000 (Indian Rupees).
The money they received from this transaction was used to finance their travels, including a honeymoon trip to Digha Sea Beach, and to buy the mobile phone they desired.
This deeply troubling incident has shocked the community, and the authorities are taking swift action to bring the father to justice for his involvement in the sale of their infant child.
