Senior media leader Sarmad Ali has been re-elected as President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), reaffirming his central role in guiding Pakistan’s newspaper industry through a period of unprecedented challenges.
Announcing the development on social media, Sarmad Ali said he was “deeply honored and humbled” by the trust placed in him, acknowledging the growing pressures facing print journalism in an evolving media landscape.
He emphasized that safeguarding credible and independent journalism while ensuring the financial sustainability of newspapers will require “collective determination, innovative solutions, and meaningful collaboration” across the industry.
With over three decades of experience in marketing, advertising, and media management, Sarmad Ali has been associated with the Jang Media Group since 1993 and currently serves as its Managing Director.
Beyond media leadership, he has been a member of the Senate of Pakistan since April 2024, serving on key standing committees, including Defense, Commerce, Information & Broadcasting, Climate Change, and Culture.
Widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s leading marketing thought leaders, Sarmad Ali has received multiple prestigious accolades, including the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his services to the newspaper industry, the Asian Brand Leadership Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pakistan Advertisers Society.
He has also played a pivotal role in global advertising and media forums, serving as President of the International Advertising Association Pakistan Chapter and holding positions with the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations.
His re-election comes at a critical juncture, as Pakistan’s print media grapples with declining revenues, digital disruption, and sustainability concerns—placing renewed responsibility on industry leadership to chart a viable path forward.
Sarmad Ali expressed gratitude to colleagues and stakeholders, pledging to work closely with all partners to strengthen the future of newspapers in Pakistan.
