The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced that it will hold a major public rally at Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan on July 25, marking its return to the historic venue after nearly 40 years.
According to party leaders, the convention and public gathering will begin on July 25 and continue until the night of July 26. PPP leader Faisal Mir said the event would be a significant milestone in the party’s political activities, with a large turnout of workers and senior leadership expected.
Mir noted that the last time the PPP held a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan was on April 10, 1986, when the late former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto addressed a historic gathering after returning to Pakistan following years in exile.
As part of the preparations, the party has released a special campaign anthem, while organizational and logistical arrangements across Lahore are being finalized.
The 1986 rally remains one of the most memorable events in Pakistan’s political history. Benazir Bhutto received a massive public welcome upon her arrival in Lahore, with millions reportedly lining the route from the airport to Minar-e-Pakistan. Political analysts have described it as one of the largest public gatherings in the country’s history, with the journey taking several hours due to the overwhelming crowds.
The upcoming rally is expected to revive memories of that landmark event while signaling the PPP’s renewed political mobilization in Punjab.
