Health experts in the United States have raised concerns over the growing use of screens among children and teenagers, warning that excessive screen time may negatively affect their physical, mental, and social health.
Experts say constant social media scrolling, nonstop texting, and spending long hours playing video games can lead to poor sleep, weak academic performance, reduced physical activity, and limited social interaction among young people.
According to foreign media reports, an advisory issued by the U.S. Surgeon General recommends completely avoiding screen time for children under 18 months of age. The advisory further suggests that children under 6 years should have less than one hour of screen time daily, while children aged 6 to 18 should limit screen use to a maximum of two hours per day.
Specialists have urged parents to encourage outdoor activities, healthy routines, and face-to-face communication to reduce the harmful effects of excessive digital exposure on children and teenagers.
