Customs officials at Islamabad Airport made a significant seizure on Friday, confiscating 250 luxury mobile phones valued at Rs. 60 million. The confiscated phones included various models such as iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14. Two passengers were arrested in connection with this incident, according to Customs officials.
The incident took place when the PIA flight 216, en route from Dubai to Peshawar, was diverted to Islamabad due to adverse weather conditions. During the inspection, Customs officers discovered 139 phones in possession of Mohammad Abbas and 111 phones from other passengers.
Sources have revealed concerns about the connivance of Customs staff with passengers in clearing valuable goods at various airports, with few such cases being apprehended by the department.
