Nicholas Pooran, West Indies’ most-capped T20I player and all-time leading run-scorer in the format, has announced his retirement from international cricket at 29. The former white-ball captain ends his career with 2275 runs in 106 T20Is and 1983 runs in 61 ODIs.
Pooran last played for West Indies in December 2024 and had opted out of recent national duties, but his decision still comes as a surprise—especially after expressing, just months ago, his intent to play 100 more T20Is.
In an emotional statement, he thanked fans, family, and teammates, calling it a privilege to wear the maroon and lead the side. Though stepping away from internationals, he affirmed his continued love for West Indies cricket.
Debuting in 2016, Pooran captained the side in 2022 before resigning post the T20 World Cup. Despite international exit, he remains active in franchise leagues like the IPL, CPL, ILT20, MLC, and The Hundred.
Cricket West Indies thanked Pooran for his contributions and wished him success in the next chapter.
