Victoria Theilvig, 21, made history as the first Danish contestant to win the Miss Universe crown during the 73rd edition of the competition held in Mexico City. She received the title from Sheynnis Palacios, Miss Universe 2023, who was the first Nicaraguan to hold the crown.
Theilvig’s victory ends Denmark’s 61-year wait to even place in the top five. Her empowering response during the final questions and answers captivated audiences: “No matter where you come from or your past, you can turn it into your strengths. Believe in yourself and your dreams, and never give up.”
Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria was the first runner-up, making history as the first Nigerian to place in the top five, while María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa of Mexico took third place.
A professional dancer and beauty entrepreneur, Theilvig is also a mental health advocate, animal rights supporter, and aspiring lawyer.
This year’s competition celebrated several milestones, including Miss Egypt Logina Salah becoming the first contestant with vitiligo and Miss Malta Beatrice Njoya competing at age 40, the oldest in Miss Universe history.
Theilvig’s win marks a new era for Denmark, inspiring women worldwide to persevere and embrace their dreams.
