A famous anchor from Pakistan has revealed that Dr. Umar Adil, a self-proclaimed YouTuber, has been taken into custody for making derogatory comments about women in the media.
Famous television presenter Ghareeda Farooqui bravely took action against online abuse by filing a complaint against Dr. Umar Adil for his offensive language and defamatory claims towards her and other women in the media industry.
In a recent podcast, the YouTuber heavily criticized female anchors, portraying them as only being used for their looks on television and doubting their capability for their jobs. The experienced journalist used social media to criticize Adil’s language, labeling it as obscene, vulgar, and defamatory.
She shared that even after having the opportunity to say sorry, Adil continued to make offensive remarks, leading her to take legal measures. Her plea was quickly answered by law enforcement agencies, resulting in the YouTuber’s arrest.
Numerous social media users expressed their backing for the female anchors and other women journalists, calling on investigative agencies to reveal the reasons behind Dr. Adil’s remarks and enforce harsh consequences on the accountable parties. They stressed that the attacks are intended to silence the powerful advocates for Pakistan.
A different female broadcaster added her voice to the criticism, describing Dr. Adil’s remarks as an assault on all women in Pakistan. Social media users have also shown strong disapproval, demanding harsher punishments for individuals who attack women in this way.
Anchor Kiran Naz strongly responded by stating that Dr. Umar Adil should be held accountable for his actions, and female anchors would react within the limits of the law and constitution. She slammed anchor Zohaib Butt for sharing the podcast for views first, and only showing remorse after receiving backlash.
Anchor Absa Komal urged people to boycott Zohaib Butt and Dr. Umar Adil, questioning the reasons behind some men’s hostility towards accomplished women. She pointed out the wider problem of misogyny in society, expressing sorrow over the common existence of negative feelings towards women.
