YouTube is gearing up to make skipping ads a bit more challenging for viewers, as the video-sharing giant experiments with a revamped “Skip Ads” button.
The platform has confirmed that it’s in the process of testing this redesigned button, which is set to be not only smaller but also trickier to spot.
The forthcoming button will sport reduced text size and enhanced transparency, aiming to blend in more seamlessly. Additionally, the button will take on a curved shape, lending it a modern touch. Notably, the word “Ads” will be devoid of capital letters in this new design, contributing to its subtlety.
The rationale behind this update, according to YouTube, is to maintain a consistent user experience that aligns with the platform’s revamped visual identity introduced last year.
By rolling out this fresh button design, YouTube aims to bolster its metrics for ad views, extend its reach, and enhance conversions. Ultimately, this move is projected to boost Google’s overall ad revenue, as users might be less inclined to skip ads if the button doesn’t command immediate attention.
Industry observer and Google Ads expert, Thomas Eccel, shared his insights on this development. He noted the emergence of a notably smaller and redesigned “Skip ads” button during testing. Eccel suggested that if this feature goes live, it could have an impact on campaign view rates and spending.
As of now, there’s a glimmer of hope for viewers, as the new button is still in its testing phase and its rollout to the wider public remains uncertain. The timeline for its potential release to all YouTube users is currently unclear.
