MASTUNG: A family returning to Karachi after a sightseeing trip to Quetta came under gunfire near Mastung late Friday night, leaving the husband dead, his wife critically injured, and their two young daughters unharmed, police said.
According to officials, Ali Jameel, a mobile phone businessman from Karachi, had traveled to Quetta with his wife, Ayesha, and their two daughters for a family vacation. After visiting several tourist attractions, they began their journey back to Karachi.
Police said the family reportedly lost their way during the night and left the national highway, reaching the Khand area of Dasht. There, unidentified armed men signaled their vehicle to stop. When the driver did not stop, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire.
Ali Jameel was killed on the spot, while his wife sustained serious injuries. Their two young daughters survived the attack without injuries. The injured woman was shifted to the Trauma Center at Sandeman Provincial Hospital in Quetta for treatment.
Minhaj Gulfam, President of the Karachi Mobile and Electronics Dealers Association, said the family allegedly reached the remote area after being misdirected by Google Maps. He condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Ali Murtaza Jameel’s funeral prayers have since been offered in Karachi.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Interior Minister Zia Langove took notice of the incident, sought a detailed report from the authorities, and directed officials to take strict action against those involved.
